I have always been interested in art, and my art journey escalated quickly in 2021 after the pandemic. My heart had ripped wide open, and I was metaphorically hemorrhaging. I needed something to stop the bleeding. Art is profoundly healing and lifesaving.
I find refuge in watercolor, oil painting, photography, relief printing, bookbinding, mixed media, dance, and anywhere else my hyperfixations take me.
Through portraits and figurative art, I hope to explore the complexities of the human condition intimately. Each image becomes a portal for stories that often remain unspoken. Reflecting on profound personal and professional experiences, I aim to capture subtle expressions of resilience and vulnerability and evoke emotional resonance. I invite viewers to connect through our shared human experience, encouraging discussions of life’s fragility and the endurance of the spirit.

About the art
Working with portraits and figurative art allows me to explore the complexity of the human condition in a deeply intimate way. Each face and figure becomes a portal for the emotions and stories that often remain unspoken. Drawing from my personal and professional background, I focus on capturing subtle expressions of resilience, vulnerability, and strength, reflecting the profound moments I have witnessed.
Portraiture allows me to express not only a subject's physical likeness but also their inner life—capturing moments of hope, struggle, and quiet dignity. By combining abstract expression with careful attention to detail, color, light, and form, I aim to create works that evoke emotional resonance and invite viewers to connect through our shared human experience. In exploring the figure, I delve into themes of life’s fragility and endurance. My artistic process serves as a personal healing journey and dialogue of creative expression. By juxtaposing beauty with raw realities, I encourage discussions on life's fragility and the endurance of the human spirit. Ultimately, I hope to connect people through shared narratives, illuminating the common threads that link us all.
Udit Harper Gorman has always had an artistic spirit, but began to deeply explore visual art in 2021. After several challenging years at the end of nearly a decade as a critical care nurse, during and after an unnamed pandemic and other unrelated catastrophes, she found refuge in art. As a healer, Udit intuitively understands that art heals, and she embraces visual art as a form of personal medicine. Her works span oil painting, watercolor, photography, relief printing, bookbinding, and mixed media.
Udit’s art has been exhibited internationally in the group show “Impressions of Dallas,” curated by the Dallas Museum of Art. She has sold works to collectors across the United States.
Udit presents Surface Tension, her first solo exhibition, May 2-31, 2026, at Art House on 4th in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is a current member of the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition and a facilitator for weekly Life Figure Sessions at Art House on 4th. She wishes to connect with others through art.
She plans to begin submitting to group and juried shows after Surface Tension, and to continue creating personal and commissioned pieces after clocking out of her Real Job shifts.
Udit (pronounced “you-dit”) is a wife, mother, friend, nurse, dancer, and now a visual artist. Udit welcomes visitors to explore her work and hopes they discover elements within her artwork that personally resonate.
